Veterans Day Remembering All Branches of Military

Veterans Day Remembering All Branches of Military

Today is a special day of celebration to remember an anniversary day of history of the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month of when World War I was declared finished in 1918.

Please take a moment to remember this day. If you see someone in uniform, or know of someone serving please shake their hand, tell them thank you, and even salute them for they continue the work to fight for our freedoms this country has.

Thanks for visiting with Thrifty Shop Girl, and for remembering this special day with our country.

I am sharing another Thrifter, Junker, Treasure Hunter who has some really neat things she is offering at Ebay. These Cross Stitch, Embroidery, Series Collection kits have been a pretty good seller for her. Visit MaryLouLavender*s at Ebay, and see what other vintage kits she is offering, or sometimes you find informational booklets as well. How much fun for those who wish to craft all year long, and especially with Christmas approaching too.

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend, and wishing you a super week. Enjoy your thrifting, crafting, and vintage hunting everyone. Thanks for visiting Thrifty Shop Girl, and see you all again soon.

Glass Cloche Dome Cheese Dish Wooden Base

Black Glass Cloche Dome Cover Wood Pedestal Stand

Blue Glass Cloche Dome Cover Cheese Tray Wood Base

Pink Cloche Glass Dome Cover Cheese Tray Wood Base

White Cloche Glass Dome Cover Cheese Tray Wood Base

Glass Cloche Dome Cover Cheese Dish Wooden Base

Hello, Hello, Hello everyone! How has your thrift shopping been lately? Mine has not been too eventful. What I have worked on was pieces I had found over time, and I have been upcycling them in one way, or another.

Above you will see pictures of glass cloche dome covers with wooden bases that I have done over time. Most of them I kept it simple with painting the wooden bases. I primed them, and then painted one blue, one was pink, and another was white. On the white one I added a little bit more by using mod podge, and cutting a music sheet to fit. With the music sheet I coffee/tea stained it a little bit, and then burnt the edges before applying it to the base.

At the very top you will see a black pedestal stand with the glass cloche dome I had done. This one was fun. A bit challenging, but still fun. I used the wooden base that is found with most of the domed cheese boards. I then attached it to a wooden candle holder. After the glue dried I applied a grey primer, and then painted it all black. Once that had dried I applied to this one also a fitted sheet music cut for it, stained, and mod podged. I took some scrap cut paper of the music sheet and applied it around the middle of the pedestal stand. Around the neck/top part of the stand I applied a white satiny ribbon that matched with the paper giving just a bit more character with this piece.

I have the pink one, and the white one listed with my shop LilacsNDreams at Etsy which you can use this Etsy link to get there. I have recently been made aware of my Etsy link on the sidebar not working. The other links work fine except for Etsy. Not sure what the technical issue is with it, but wanted to make you aware of this. As for the top black one, and the blue one I am in the process of listing with them at Etsy. Pictures have been taken, revised, and they are almost there.

So, it may seem that sometimes while thrifting we get some of the craziest things, or we accumulate things with no definite goals in mind. Above is some of how it can all come together too.

Thanks for sharing your time with Thrifty Shop Girl, and hope to see you all again soon. Take care, and Happy Thrifting!

Thrifting and Thrift Store Shopping

Thrifting and Thrift Store Shopping

Today was a beautiful day here! The sun was shining, and it got a bit warm again here too. When I got home I actually had to turn the a/c back on because the house felt stuffy, dampish, humid. Otherwise today was a pretty good day here.

I was gone most of the day today doing errands, paying bills, and in there some where I fit in one of my stops with a Thrift Shop too. I was gonna go back to St Vincent DePauls where I found some good deals last week. Before I knew it I had turned the corner another way, and thought maybe I should go to the Gospel Mission Thrift Shop today. I wasn't really looking for a whole lot, but I did find some things to play around with at home, and to upcycle repurpose with too.  I almost forgot to show you, but here are the pictures below of all that I got today.

What fun I will be having with some of these things too! One of the plates will be adding to a base of a cake cupcake plate I am putting together. I LOVE the rose designed plate, and it was well taken care of too. It had the hanger on it, and the hooks on the hanger had plastic protectors on it to not damage the plate. The 2 borders will be used for pictures instead of using actual frames, and some of the card stock paper packages will be used for making backgrounds to some of the pictures. Those napkins are like new! 4 of them, had their creases, and that feel of being new too. I adore the small bowl that has designs of flowers, and butterflies around the rim. This piece looks to be new too. Some of the other items will just be there till I figure out for sure how to use them, where to use them, and what I will definitely do with them. Never hurts to have a few extra things on hand for when the crafting mood hits, right?

I sometimes wish I knew of more stores to frequent, and I am sure they are out there with the areas I travel to. Until then I will keep shopping with the ones I know the prices are good, and I can generally find something of use with them.

Thanks for sharing your time with Thrifty Shop Girl, and hope you enjoyed the visit. Happy to see you all again soon. Till then Happy Thrifting!!

Guess What Day It Is Its Wacky Wednesday

Guess What Day It Is. It's Wacky Wednesday!

LOL, were expecting the camel that we are all so use to seeing in the commercials? Hey, it's cute, it's funny, but I thought I would throw something a little different to you.

Any big plans for today? Not much on this end with me. I have a dining room table with some items on it I need to glue together, and am still not done with it. Actually, I got them there, and then stopped. That was all the further I got. I gotta be in the right mood to put things together, or they do not come out as I envision them too. Kind of like shopping too. If the mood is not there, I probably will not find any good finds, or any good deals.

Well, it's Hump Day everyone. Do enjoy this day, have fun, and may it be productive for you as well. Thanks for visiting with Thrifty Shop Girl, and hope to see you again soon. Toodles . . . . .

Some Thrift Stores and Good Wills Charge Too Much Don't You Think

Some Thrift Stores Charge too Much, What Do You Think?

Many of like to go thrifting, and have some favorite thrift stores that we like to frequent too. As you frequent some of the Thrift Stores, have you noticed that some of their prices have become a little spendy? Have you found some prices that were a little bit less than a thrifty price?

Some of the local Good Wills still have some respectable prices, but that is not the case with all of them either. I myself have found a couple of Good Wills that have gotten a little bit spendy with their prices, and therefore I no longer buy from them either.

It gets to be a bit bother some when you see prices for some of the clothes at these thrift stores being priced higher than what they would be with like Walmart, or maybe Target too. Don't take me wrong, if you dig enough, look around enough, and keep on searching you can find some good deals with some things. What I have also found disturbing is some of the prices for items of interest are being priced as what they find them to be selling for on Ebay. Reason I have mentioned this is when I found a couple of items of interest I asked the clerks how they came up with their prices for such things. They told me that is due to what they sell for on Ebay.

I am sorry, and I know it is mean/terrible of me to do, but that answer of using Ebay for prices made me chuckle when I heard it. I asked the ladies if they were an auction house, accepting bids on such items, and etc. They said no of course. I reminded them that ALL items were donated to them, and that the prices they choose were not reliable from Ebay because things always sell for a different price, and it was according to a person's want at the time. I asked them if they had any collectors books that they had to verify what they were selling, and had any ideas of what they were actually selling. Of course I was told No with that too.

I am sorry, but I thought Thrift Stores were thrift stores that people went to in order to buy things for their homes, for crafting with, for repurposing. Some of those with a lower income rely on some of these stores in order for them to clothe their children to be acceptable with schools, with society, and etc. Also, when things are given to them, or as mentioned donated to them that is one big expense that they do not have is buying their inventory to sell.

There is a good little article about this particular subject written with ecommercebytes. Give it a click, and stop on by to read it. Interesting, and a few thoughts/comments are left by some as well.

So, what about you? Have you seen some kind of trend with over pricing in some of your local thrift stores, or maybe with the Good Wills? Do you think it is certain kinds of items they are doing it with?

Thanks so much for sharing your time with Thrifty Shop Girl, and welcome you all to come back again for a visit. Take care, have fun hunting for those special treasures everyone! Till the next time, Toodles . . . . .

Happy Fall Autumn Halloween to Everyone

Happy Fall Autumn Halloween to Everyone

                                    DIY Pumpkins Made Into Caterpillar

Fall, Autumn, Halloween is coming around the corner for us. Seasons are changing with signs of the leaves turning and falling, days are not so humid anymore, and the nights are becoming a bit cooler too. The humidity has fallen, and the air fills us with signs of change.

I don't like the cold, but do enjoy the seasons changing. I really like all the fall colors, and how they always have their own unique colorful looks. I enjoy seeing the yards being decorated with signs of autumn, decorations being done in the homes, and with this comes more viewing pleasure of some do it yourself projects too. Just the love the creativity of so many people.

Above you see a green caterpillar made from pumpkins, and a little bit of paint. I have seen this done before with just the orange pumpkins, and have enjoyed it. Upon seeing this unique green caterpillar looking at me I just had to share it with you all too.

So, are you ready for this seasonal change of Autumn? Do you enjoy the fall season, and all the festivities that it brings to us? The family gatherings, and the times shared with friends during this festive season is always a memorable and enjoyable time.

Thanks so much for sharing your time with Thrifty Shop Girl, and hope to see you all again soon! Have a great weekend, enjoy it, and have fun! Till the next time, Toodles . . . . . .

Thrift Shop Finds For Tuesday

Thrift Shop Finds For Tuesday

WooHoo! Today was a descent day for me to thrift. I only made it to one shop, but that was enough for me to visit with today. I really had no idea of what I would be looking for, what I would be interested, brought no notes with me, but sometimes it is for the best to do it this way too. After all we are thrifting, right?

A place I hadn't visited for a while called St Vincent DePaul was the store on my list to visit today. When I walked in the store I could tell I had not been there for a while. It was rearranged, a lot more organized, could pretty much see where things were everywhere, and of course as always their prices are pretty good too. I got in the store, did a slight walk around to familiarize myself with where things were, and then decided on starting by the craft items into the glassware. I slowly walked through, picked some things up to look, went through some things, and slowly walked around.

It's a habit of mine because it never fails I miss something the first time, or after thinking about it I know I do want it. So, back around the store I went again. This time I picked up some heavier metal bronzed like candle holders to use as stands for some cake plate stands, or even as candy bowl stands too. I found a wooden bar with round knob ends that could come in handy with something I craft, so I put it into the cart - and forgot to picture it. I found a little clear medicine like jar that had some discolored white beads/pearls shoved into it with some light brown burlap string wrapped around the neck. It also has a silver like key hanging from it. On one side of the bottle was placed a pink flower design.  Almost forgot, but I found a vintage little postal scale that dates back to the late 80s I think...have to research it a bit more.

Lastly, I was walking by the curtains, and table cloths and remembered it would be nice to find 2 matching drapes for in the dining room. If I would find something for the door I would be even more pleased. Finding 2 matching drapes that I approve of has been a chore in itself. As soon as I got to the rack I spotted a pattern that I knew. They are insulted room darkening curtains from JCPennys. They have an off white background with a tannish/light brown coloring, and some dusty pink/mauve colored flowers along with country blue flowers too. Not too flowery, but just enough. I knew this pattern from some valances I had found a few years ago that I had used in our old home we had.

When I got to the rack I found on one hanger, all together, 2 drapes, 2 valances, and 2 tie backs....all matching in pattern! The drapes are generally about $5-$6 a piece, and the valances are like $3? a piece. Are you adding this all? Well, the whole hanger had one tag on it, and was written what was on it together. I got ALL of it for $6! Then, next to these racks were a couple of shelf units. One had curtain hooks, shower curtain hooks, and things like that. I grabbed some hooks for the drapes, and then I also noticed a clear zipped bag with something in it. Pulled it out, and recognized the design as well. They were 2 sheer drapes that had the same design as the other curtains I found on the hook! So, I got all my curtains today for a total of $8.

I didn't get much, had fun, and got some pretty good bargains today too. See all the pictures above showing the few things I got.

Thanks for visiting with Thrifty Shop Girl, and hope to see you again soon. Take care, and Happy Thrifting Everyone!

Upcycled Repurposed Vintage Wooden Hangers

Vintage Wooden Hangers Upcycled Towel Bars

                  Vintage Wooden Hangers Decouped Upcycled

Upcycled Wooden Hangers Into Photo Gallery

Upcycled Repurposed Vintage Wooden Hangers, and how neat of an idea that these are too!

So, how many of you have some of these old wooden hangers hanging around collecting dust? How many times have you been out thrifting, and yard saling when you have seen these being offered for little to nothing? I know, like me I would see them, and wonder what on earth could be done with these. After roaming the internet for a little bit researching this idea I now know from others there are quite a few things that we can do with them.

Upcycle vintage wooden hangers into towel bars, decoupe them, make a photo gallery with them, seen a wonderful coat hanger made with wooden hangers, paint them, make them into jewelry holders, repurpose some hanging lights, and there is so much out there being shared by many other creative people. After seeing some of these things I know now not to get rid of my wooden hangers I have been collecting. I also am anxious, and hoping to find more when I am out thrifting too.

Feels good to be back into circulation with everything again, and to be back here with my blog as well. Some of the time away did me some good too. Thanks so much for sharing your time with Thrifty Shop Girl! See you all again soon, and till then . . . Happy Thrifting!!

Unwanted Lamps Are Repurposed Upcycled Reused

                                               Repurposed Lamps Into Bird Baths

Upcycle Old Vintage Lamps Into Home Decor

Lamps Repurposed Upcycled Into End Tables

Unwanted Lamps Are Repurposed Upcycled and Reused with our home decor.

Do you have unwanted lamps at home? When you are at the thrift shops, or at yard sales seeing them do you wonder what uses you could have for them? I know, I do the same thing. In fact, I have a glass lamp sitting in my dining room with that crystal like cut design. I see it, stare at it, and ask myself what should I do with you? I don't really feel like being rid of it because I know I will think of something. When I do that I don't want any regrets for it not being here.

Sometimes a touch of paint is done with the lamp base, maybe new shades are added, but what about repurposing them into something else of use? Hmm . . . there might be some use for them ugly brass lamps I seen, or maybe for them old vintage big belly lamps I see often too.

As you can see above ideas were shared with you showing some uses for them unloved, and unwanted lamps. I think the bird bath idea is neat! I am sure there is a ceiling lamp shade upstairs lurking around, or even some old lid sitting around I could use.

In the second picture I like how this person used them old glass belly lamps. They just gutted them out, removed the lighting on top, and added a battery operated tea lite to them. How neat!

The last one shows how maybe some sort of end tables could be made with a little cleaning, adding, and painting. I have seen candle holders that were done with lamp bases by using them old ugly brass lamps.

So many ideas, so many possibilities, and what fun creating too! So, next time you might want to reconsider getting rid of your lamp, or maybe might want to go thrift shopping for some too. Have fun, and enjoy your projects that you create.

Thanks so much for visiting with Thrifty Shop Girl, and I wish you all a happy thrifty day! Have fun, and see you all again soon. Toodles . . . . . .

Lawn Ornaments With Coffee Pot People

                                         Blog With Coffee Pot People

                                       Coffee Pot People Lawn Ornament

Lawn Ornaments With Coffee Pot People.

Hi Everyone, and thanks for dropping by! When you get a chance you have got to check this blog out that shows some of their creations of Coffee Pot People. They have a great blog that shows not only this, but some of their other little crafty things they do, and like all of us a little bit of this n that too.

What caught my attention in surfing the internet was this nifty craft of diy making these coffee pot people. Everyday I am still amazed with all the techniques, and creativity of others. I so enjoy it, love reading it, and making notes for diy projects for me to do at home. Now . . . If I would spend more time thrift shopping, working on projects, painting, and dealing with some of these diy projects instead of surfing the internet all the day I sure would get a lot done! But, it is sooo fun seeing what others share, what they are offering with some of their shops, and I just cannot get enough of it sometimes.

So, if you have any old coffee pots, teapots, maybe some old tin lids, little metal scraps, and stuff like that hanging around . . . don't get rid of it all yet. Here comes another idea for you to try for your home decor, lawn ornaments, or for a gift to someone too. If you don't have any extra pieces at home this would be a great time to be at the thrift shops looking for them, second hand stores, maybe you see something that has been tossed, and etc. Hey, collecting some of these items can be just as fun too!

Monday, and the start of our week. Sure hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Did you get done all you wanted to do? I didn't, but I did get some things done so that I can say I did accomplish something. Not much, but it was still something.

Wishing you all a super Monday, and Happy Thrifting my friends. Thanks for visiting with Thrifty Shop Girl! Take care till the next time, and see you all again soon. Toodles . . . . .

Word or Letter Art Done by Photography

                                    Framed Letter Art by Carolyn

                                    Word Art by MyCastleHeart

Hello, Hello, and Hello again everyone! A very Happy Friday to you all!

Word or Letter Art Done by Photography is a really cool thing! Have you all seen this before? This is something to really consider, and you might just find yourself really looking at things around you in a different way. In many many things that we see every day there are letters of sorts within them. As you can see above it can come in all forms, shapes, and sizes. What is really unique is how it is there right in front of us, but we have to just 'see' it.  Interesting, who would have guessed?

Partial legs on a chair, an old wagon wheel, shapes of windows maybe at church, the curl end of some scrolled iron/metal, fence posts, old vintage water pumps, and the possibilities are truly endless with this. How neat, creative, and such a simple way to add with our decor in our homes don't you think? I am sure when I am out now, going down the road, looking at buildings, and just everyday things I will now see some of them in a different way. What a fun creative task for any of us to do. LOL:) Kind of like being a kid all over again, right?

Thanks so much for sharing your time with Thrifty Shop Girl, and I hope you were able to find something to inspire you with. Of course when you find that inspiration it is time to go thrifting again too, right? LOL:) Ya'll take care, and have a beautiful creative thrifty weekend. See you all again soon. Toodles . . . . .

Repurpose Reuse Upcycle For Memories to Last

Repurpose, Reuse, Upcycle, Recycle For Memories to Last

Thrifty Shop Girl is curious as to why so many of us like this diy crafting of repurposing, upcycling, and reusing. Just curious to see what everyone's reasons are for this wonderful technique.

I know there are many of us who do it because we enjoy it. Others like to preserve items found, or things from our past. Some of us like to freshen up what we have to make it just a little bit more modern to fit in with our decor of today. Then, there are some of us who just hate throwing things away, and try to find other ways to use such items that we have too. Of course, when we are thrifting, and junking we also find many unwanted treasures that we can use for this pleasure as well.

There are many people all around us who do this for themselves, and there are many out there who do this for the purpose of selling too. Some do it as a hobby, and many others have mastered having their own business with this too.

Upcycling, and Repurposing is the use of old items for new purposes. Reuse discarded materials for creating something of value. I myself like to repurpose items that may have the potential for something fresh, and because it makes it unique. I adore giving new life to once loved treasures, but also adore a new life added to my home, and to the homes of others too.

So so many things are used with this wonderful diy craft that the list is endless. Headboards are made from shutters, bi-fold doors, old wire fence doors, pallets, etc. Many people will use pieces of jewelry to either make new pieces, maybe use them for around picture frames of loved ones, adding to cards, and the possibilities are endless. I have seen some really neat suitcases used by adding expandable files to them for the office, and for holding precious family papers too. Another neat idea is using some of them old sweaters for making unique market bags to be used, or for wonderful handbags as well. What about some of those mason jars, and what people do with them? Making them candle holders, adding solar lights to them, making soap dispensers with them, and so on. Just amazing what everyone can do with such lovelies.

Whether you are a seller, business owner, hobbyist, etc it is a joy when the job is completed, and brings much satisfaction to many of us. Some people do not have the time for this craft, or feel they are not able to do so and will buy from others that do. Whatever your reasons may be it brings joy to all around us.

Repurpose, and Upcycle For Memories to Last. Hang onto some of those family memories, and preserve them with this craft.

Thanks so much for visiting with Thrifty Shop Girl, and hope to see you all again soon. Take care, and Happy Thrifting everyone!

Trunks Vintage Antique Retro Refinished DIY

How to Refinish An Antique Trunk

                                           Vintage Trunks Are Collectible Treasures

Trunks Vintage Details Large and Fun

Trunks Vintage Antique Retro Refinished DIY. Love them, and they are so fun! I want one!

Hey everyone, how did your weekend go? Hope all was good. I made my first visit to a consignment store in another area I have not really dealt with. She had a nice store. In there I seen an old trunk with her vintage items, a more modern retro trunk, and then she also had an old military metal trunk too. Oh, what fun it was to look, and what memories it brought to me too.

I have watched trunks over time with vintage, how some are refinished with wax or paint, brought back to life, and sometimes converted into other useful things to use in the home. Amazing pieces, and I will find one that I just have to have some day, and get it. Till then it sure is a lot of fun looking.

Thanks so much for visiting with Thrifty Shop Girl today, and hope to see ya'll again soon. Happy Thrift Shopping! See ya later.
